Travel & Accommodation
Accomodation
Curaçao has plenty of great places to stay, from beachfront resorts to private rentals.
The wedding events will be located in Jan Thiel , so staying in Jan Thiel or Willemstad (20 min drive) will be most convenient for you.
Jan Thiel offers a great selection of spacious Airbnbs, if you’re traveling as a couple or a group. If you prefer a hotel experience, then Willemstad provides many lovely resorts and boutique hotels.
Recommendations
If you’d like some help getting started, we’ve compiled some options below:
Don’t forget to adjust the dates to see accurate pricing and availability. No matter where you stay, you’ll have easy access to great beaches, delicious food and unique attractions to explore.
Travel Tips
Currency: The local currency is the Carribean Guilder (XCG), but US dollars are widely accepted. Credit cards also work in most places.
Language: The local language is Papiamentu, a Spanish/Portuguese/Dutch creole. However, most locals also speak English and Dutch.
Weather: Expect hot, sunny weather with highs upwards of 32 degrees celcius.
Electricity: Curaçao uses the same outlets as North America (Type A/B).
Water: Tap water is safe to drink on the island, and bottled water is easy to find and affordable.
Getting Around
Curaçao drives on the right side of the road, same as Canada and the US.
Renting a car is strongly recommended. Uber is not active on the island, and taxis are both expensive and shared.
The island is fairly flat and very easy to navigate. Driving will also give you access to many more of the beaches, restaurants and sites the island has to offer.
You can rent a car in advance using one of the international or local providers listed here.
Where to Eat
Curaçao has so many delicious food options, from high end restaurants to road-side spots.
We highly recommend trying out the local food trucks for dinner at least once, they are a unique Curaçao experience. And for lunch in Willemstad, Plasa Bieu and the Old Market, are not to be missed.
If cooking is your thing, you’ll find plenty of fresh fruits and veggies in the local markets and grocery stores.
Things To Do
Beaches

Hop in your rental and visit as many beaches as possible throughout your stay. Curaçao has over 40 beaches to explore. Our favourites included Tug Boat Beach for amazing snorkeling, Playa Piskado to swim with sea turtles, Grote Knip for its picturesque cliffs, and Cas Abao which is noted as one of the prettiest beaches in the world.
Boat Tour to Klein Curaçao

Take a day trip to Klein Curaçao, an uninhabited neighbouring island that you can only get to by boat. Tours usually include hotel pickup/drop off as well as lunch, not to mention the beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
District Pietermaai

Visit District Pietermaai in Willemstad, which houses one of the trendiest streets on the island. The area is very walkable, with boutique hotels, clothing boutiques, cafes, restaurants and more.
District Punda

Visit the historical District Punda in Willemstad which includes the floating markets, museums, restaurants, and the Queen Emma bridge on the waterfront. Thursday nights from 6 - 10pm, the district turns into a craft and arts market, with live music and fireworks.
Beach Clubs

Relax the day away on a day bed rental at a beach club. Curaçao beach clubs are a great way to treat yourself to the perfect day at some of the busier beaches. Try Mood Beach Club, Zanzibar Beach Club, Bonita Beach Club, Madero Ocean Club, the new Lemon Ocean Club.
